``THE SHERWOOD 42``

Well. the sun always shines on the righteous !!! A marvellous day was had by all - a fantastic turn out of 55 cars waved away from 9.30am before venturing into the wilds of Leicestershire and beyond. Tea and biscuits for everyone prior to the start, provided the inner strength to see people through the day, with various stops along the way for a top up on the calorie front ! The stop at Foxton Locks was well received by everyone and very informative at the same time. Is everyone now going to sell their cars and buy a narrow boat ? !!! If so let me know as I am desperate for stock. On the return to Southwell all were greeted with fish and chips and more tea and coffee if required. Hopefully no one was on a diet that day !! The portions had to be seen to be believed !! This was all followed by a charity raffle for ``Olivers Army``. All the prizes, kindly donated by Classic Car Magazine, Octane, Classic Car Mart and ourselves resulted in a fantastic sum of £300 being presented to Mark Lilley for the charity. A very worthy cause and well worth supporting ( www.oliversarmy.org ). Finally, I must pass on my heart felt thanks to the guys at Carlton & District Motor Club, especially Brian and Richard. I have said it before, but without their help and never ending enthusiasm, the event would not take place. Many many thanks once again. 2009 - Well how do we go forward ?? It is getting more difficult to add and improve on our previous endevours - but fingers crossed all will fall into place for next year. Don`t worry, you will be informed !! Thanks again to you all for your support - If there is ever anything that Sherwood Restorations can do to assist in any way, during the year, you know where we are,

Kind Regards
Charles

Hallo Paul/Charles,Just a little note to say how pleased I am with the C type!As you know, the drive home to Holland was a bit of an “experience”, not only the extreme heat, but the car loosing all its power after 30 miles made it an exciting start. The “upper class” recovery service, i.e. a new Bentley with engineer, toolbox and parts is something I will never forget, looking at the pictures I took still puts a big grin on my face! The rest of the 400 mile trip went uneventful, I made a detour to visit Peter Jaye, he was very pleased to see his first C type again. We talked a lot about the car and the few people who owned the car before me. He agreed to talk to the two previous owners to see what documentation/pictures/history is available with them. After having had lunch at Peter’s house I continued my trip to Harwich. As I had plenty of time, I stayed clear of the Motorways and had a great time sorting out the country roads! What a piece of machinery! I do now realize even more how skilful, fit and brave the people driving these cars around Le Mans must have been.I have put another 300 miles on the cars since a got home, adjusted the steering wheel and got rid of a few rattles, squeaks and vibrations the car is now absolutely perfect!!!!This morning the FIVA Identity card arrived, thanks for the service!!Is there any news on the whereabouts of the tonneau cover? So, thank you both for the service provided, it was certainly a pleasure doing business with you, I am very pleased with the “whole package” i.e. the C type and Sherwood restorations, no doubt we haven’t seen the last of each other! All the best and good luck!! Dear Paul / Charles...........I have always in the past regarded cars from Sherwood Restorations as for the elite who can afford mega money but must say that in the last 6 months I have had three absolutely wonderful cars from you all at very realistic prices, The A30 is of course just the very best, being a concours winner and represents great value at the price paid, the Jensen 541 is a real beauty and drives so well, and by not being perfect means I can get it wet and enjoy driving it as much as I like, this car in my opinion represents the best value available for thisd type of classic supercar, especially with all the work you did.I think my Jensenitis has developed into a severe case of Sherwooditis, I just hope it does not prove fatal.Once again, thanks and best wishes. Keith Austin
